Sir Alex Ferguson has played down suggestions of a rift with Wayne Rooney after the striker contradicted his manager.
Ferguson had said Rooney, who was seen holding ice on his ankle after being substituted against Bolton, had missed the games against Valencia and Sunderland due to an injury. Rooney prompted suggestions of a fall-out, though, when he claimed in a TV interview while on international duty that he had "had no ankle problems all season".
However, Ferguson told MUTV: "The lad's got a high profile and the press are always going to seek him out for an interview or a quote, but it's water off a duck's back really. You've got to put that aside to know the real things that are happening at the club. It just passes off."
