Wenger rules out deal for Pires
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ruled out the prospect of handing a contract to Robert Pires.
The 36-year-old former Arsenal star is currently training with the Gunners as he bids to keep his fitness levels up following his release from Villarreal. Pires is not planning to retire and his situation evoked memories of Sol Campbell last term when the defender was handed a short-term contract after initially taking part in training.
However, Wenger feels he is well stocked in the midfield area and believes it would not add anything to his squad.
"I like Pires and I am very proud that every player who plays for us wants to come back because it was a special experience in their lives," Wenger said. "But we already have enough players at Arsenal and a big enough squad.
"We will respect our wage bill and will not go above what we have planned financially. I have Rosicky, Nasri, Fabregas, Wilshere, Walcott and Arshavin, who all play in the same kind of manner."
Wenger feels Pires can cut it in the Premier League and has urged his fellow managers to take a look at the former Marseille man.
He said: "I will help Robert Pires to get fit and, believe me, he can still play in the Premier League. If I was a Premier League manager looking for a creative player, I would take Pires tomorrow."
